October in Review

So I have not updated a real update in forever. I'll just update about what happened in October. Or in the past week.

During school they give us looooong breaks, so what do we do? WE PLAY FOOTBALL!

Finally got to see Gabe Bondoc perform in San Francisco! Twice in less than a week.

Jessie's Birthday Celebration. Another one hitting the rip old age of 24.

We went to Rose's place in Hayward for a Pre-Halloween get together. I love Scene It!

We only have 22 days left in the LVN program. Then we're sent off on our own. What am I going to do? scary.

old lady: "this is a silly question"

me: "okay"

OL: "Does the hospital have a hamper i can put my dirty clothes in?"

me: "you want to put your clothes in our hampers?"

OL: "yes is there any that i can put my clothes in?"

me: "well, i don't think we can, but you can buy one at a store"

OL: "where can I buy one?"

me: "umm, maybe Walgreens or Target?"

OL: "oh I went to Walgreens"

me: "There's Bed, Bath, and Beyond...?"

OL: "That's the best idea yet."

a visitor, "do you guys put air freshener in the air ducts?"

i looked at her with a confused look on my face, then i said, "i don't think so"

she said, "i keep smelling this perfume smell in more than one place, it's the same smell and it's irritaing me."

i shrug my shoulders, "i don't think so" thinking to myself, "maybe it's just you lady"

"okay, i'll go over there and see if i smell it"

are you kidding me?

I work at the info desk at a hospital and a lady came up to me and this was part of the weird, agrivating conversation we had.

her: I'm going to be taking Chinese lessons because I don't want to burden you.

me: what? excuse me? sorry.

her: (holds up a pamphlet written in English) you having to read things in English.

me: I'm born here, i don't even speak Chinese.

her: oh. (holds up the pamphlet for me to see) Isn't it beautiful?

me: ummm... i've been reading and writing English my whole life, i know it.

there was more, but omg my heart started to burst out of my head! I know she's crazy, but still, this was the worst one yet.

Asian Women as Trophy Wives

I'm outraged! The editors of MC and the author should really take a hard look at themselves. Generalizing all Asian women and reducing the relationships that they have with white men to nothing more than a stereotype. "They're dating a white guy, and they may not know if it's a fetish thing." really??? We've been reduced to being a fetish? "It's like a curse that Asian-American women can't avoid." I can't believe the sources that were used for this article. I'm pretty sure Chu chose what would fit her article, did they know what they were doing?

I'm not saying that the article doesn't have some truth. BUT to say that this article pertains to ALL Asian women and white men, you must be out of your minds! I can't even comprehend or put into words how disgusting this article makes me feel. You can read the comments that have been made. there are 2-3 there that must not be looking at the same article, or are just ignorant.

If this article had been written about any other ethnicity or race, i'm pretty sure that the editors of MC would not have put it to print. just because it was an Asian woman who wrote it, it doesn't mean that it gets the approval from Asians/ APAs everywhere. MC needs to re evaluate their article choices and how they think of themselves as a women;s magazine.

My co-worker just passed by me and said, "I'm going to marry that security guard. He's so beautiful." oh my goodness, that made me laugh out loud. Mind you, my co-worker is a male nurse and the security guard is male as well. I could care less for this security guard, i don't get what they all see in him. so what if he's been in the Navy and was stationed in the Phillipines. He creeps me out. whatever, that was the funniest quote of the day.

Be a part of the nation’s largest showcase for new Asian American and Asian films! Every March, over 300 volunteers from around the Bay Area log almost 2,500 hours to make the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (SFIAAFF) a success! SFIAAFF volunteers serve in a variety of capacities across the festival, from the box office to galas and receptions, from ticket taking to driving festival guests.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hello.

Thank you to Calvin and Benjamin for making me feel better from my last posting.

Just hope that all your Christmas wishes come true this year.

To be honest this year has felt the least like Christmas. I don't know if it's because of the recession or if it's because of the fact that all my holiday parties are after Christmas Day. Everywhere seems to be downplaying Christmas and focusing more on the deep discounts they are giving in order to get people to buy their merchandise. Even at work it's different this year. They didn't put up the Christmas tree, (i think it's because it's a fire hazard) but still. And everywhere i go it's "Happy Holidays," ew. People are still saying "Merry Christmas" which is nice, but i think this year we haven't even really thought about anything more that the best discounts (i admit to it).

I hope that we can all just see more to this day and the rest of this year than just saving money.

The same co-worker. Always calling me judgmental. He says other crap to me, but this one draws the line. Always thinking that I think that I’m “better than everyone else.” Of all the people. He uses my Christianity as his reason as to why he thinks that I think I’m better than everyone. Have I ever rubbed that in anyone’s face or even forced it down someone’s throat, or even used Christianity as a reason to think better of myself? Please tell me. Have I ever used that as an explanation as to any of my wrong or right doings? I am the same as everyone else. I am in no place to judge anyone.

I mean don’t get me wrong, there have been times in my head where I would think things out of spite, but to compare someone or even put anyone on a scale, especially to religion is too much. To even think that I would do that to anyone. Of all the people to talk about my faith, I have steered away from talking to my co-workers about it, just for the reason that they would do what he’s done to me. Maybe that should be all the more reason to share, but I think I’d just get more infuriated with their remarks.

If any of this doesn’t make sense or you can counter my argument, please do. This is only one sided, so maybe I have judged you and I’m too mad right now to remember. Refresh my memory.

Looking for Internment Interviewees

Kevin Walker, a Yonsei filmmaker, is taking a road trip across America to make a documentary on Japanese American internees, and the lingering effects of living behind barbed wire: Finding a Part in Internment History.

I'm told that he's currently looking for more people to interview for the film. If you know anyone who was interned, or any Caucasians that lived in the camps, he'll be traveling everywhere to interview. Next stop is San Francisco in December. Contact Kevin at kevin.walker.w@gmail.com.
